Tony Hawks - Round Ireland With A Fridge
Tony Hawks has built a strong fan base both as a
stand up comedian and for his numerous television appearances on top rated
shows like Red Dwarf and Have I Got News For You. He gained a whole new following
with his alternative travel books, the first of which was the subject of his
DuMaurier talk.
The film drew a good audience to the Festival, many of whom, not having read
the book, rushed to the book shop afterwards to make sure of their copy. Round
Ireland With A Fridge is not a documentary of Tony’s comedy road trip – it was
made some 10 years afterwards, but the film keeps as close to the original book
as possible. Tony, quite rightly, plays himself alongside other comedy
favourites including Ed Byrne and Josie Lawrence.
The hilarious portrayal of Tony’s trials and tribulations with his friend the
fridge was followed by a relaxed and funny talk by the man himself.
Fans will be delighted to know that another of Tony’s books, Playing The
Moldovans At Tennis has also been turned into a film and is available on DVD.
