The Scary Little Girls Secret Story Walks
Now in their 3rd year of secret walks and
storytelling at DuMaurier, the word is out about these lovely performers. Their
evening walks on Thursday were buzzing with faces old and new all hungry for
the secrets that would unfold along the way.
Starting point this year was the beautiful lounge of the Fowey Hotel, with its
panoramic vista of the harbour as it pours out to sea. It was here that Kate
Rawson gave a wonderfully warm reading from Frenchman’s Creek, cleverly delivering
the dialogue in the voices of both Dona, the Lady St. Columb, and the notorious
French pirate Jean-Benoit Aubéry
as their love affair begins.
Armed with their printed guides, the walkers wound their way down to Whitford
Yard and the RFYC, where Sharon Andrew was waiting, suitably attired in
fisherman’s garb and wellies with a lesser known short story Adieu Sagesse. Sharon romped her way through a myriad of
characters in this clever and satirical tale, gaining laughter and applause despite
the chilly open air setting on the river.
The walks ended in the sumptuously retro surroundings of
Pinky Murphy’s, where glamour puss Rebecca Mordan finished the evening in style
with a stunning passage from the ever popular Rebecca.
Reading the comments left by the people on the walks this year, the Scary Little
Girls are already in demand for DM Fest 2013.
