The History Boys
The History Boys made a welcome return to Hall For Cornwall this week, and it’s a measure of the popularity of this classy piece of work that many people in the audience were on their second or even third visit to the play.
Arguably Alan Bennett’s finest work, the play was first aired in 2004 and has received a raft of awards, including a Tony and the New York Critic’s Best Play - and deservedly so.
Set in Thatcher’s Britain the play follows the trials and tribulations of 8 public schoolboys attempting to gain entry to Oxbridge, whilst fighting and frequently losing their battles with youthful sexual urges.
Superbly directed by Christopher Luscombe and impeccably choreographed by Jenny Arnold, the acting is simply perfect. Extremely funny, but mixed with a sadness that Bennett does so well, with a soundtrack of the best loved songs of the era The History Boys must surely continue to run and run and enthral audiences wherever it plays
