Strange Matters

Dave’s House Theatre Company

Perhaps because Dave’s House Theatre Company is fairly new or perhaps heavy rain kept people away, but the Keay Theatre was disappointingly low on audience numbers for Strange Matters. To all those who missed it – shame on you, as Strange Matters was a riot of madness, mayhem and dubious singing.

This young Cornish troupe is innovative, clever and extremely funny. It’s impossible to relate the plot as I lost it shortly after it began, but I think that was the point! Strange Matters is a play within a play and races along at a crazy pace, with surreal goings on, an X-Factor reject living in a box, emotional amateur dramatics, despair, anger and arguments. When the cast fall apart and have no direction, Dermot the techie takes command with the help of sounds, lights and a power point presentation.

Strange Matters is laugh out loud funny and I look forward to future productions.
