Eden Project :: Arts Café Midsummer Bash

Is it really almost 2 years since Eden introduced the monthly Arts Café nights? The idea of showcasing cool music with art and good food has grown from tentative beginnings into the happening place on the first Friday of every month.

Last night’s mid-summer bash on a hot Cornish night was rammed with regular Café stalwarts alongside first time visitors lured by the promise of the coolest music in town.  Regular Master Mixers, Jelly Jazz, soon filled the dance floor with a hot mix of soul, Latino, jazz, funk – you name it, these guys will mix it.

A roar of approval greeted the welcome return to Eden of Smerins Anti-Social Club, the big and brassy festival darlings from Bristol. Always a great night out, these fabulous musicians filled the famous biomes with sizzling jazz and oh! so cool swing with their huge horn section and boodilicious beats. Smerins are musicians of the highest calibre, delivering their infectious grooves with fun and frolics. Guesting with Smerins on this very special night was bubbly Aussie Nuala Honan with her powerhouse vocals moving seamlessly from smoky and sexy to loud and proud; Nuala wowed the audience with every note. Nuala has carved a name for herself in her adopted Bristol home where she has a resident acoustic slot in the Golden Lion as well as regular appearances with The Alchemy Quartet. The funky set fitted perfectly with the summer party mood as the Pimms flowed and the dancing continued late into the night, with Jelly Jazz back on the decks to send everyone home with cool notes ringing softly in their ears.

Another triumphant Arts Café night which now moves over to make room for those famous Eden Sessions, but Café fans are in for a very special treat when it opens it’s doors again in August.
