Geppetto - Cube Theatre
Cube have already proved their value amongst the great and the good of Cornish theatre and this latest production has been warmly received at every stop.
In Geppetto, playwright Jon Welch has once again handed Cube a wonderful piece of work and the pairing of the superb Benjamin Symes playing opposite the terrific Nix Wood set the stage alight.
Based in a shabby 1950’s New York flat, an innocent young girl applies for a job as a puppeteer with a Jewish Italian immigrant. We are then drawn into a rollercoaster ride of conflicting emotions as Geppetto and Florence strip back and expose the personal layers of their complex lives.
With the use of black and white film and a clever soundtrack we find ourselves simultaneously laughing out loud at the sharp and witty dialogue whilst fighting back tears as the holocaust is revisited.
