Divorce Me, Darling
Divorce Me Darling
Keay Theatre
Performed by Cornwall College St. Austell Student Acting and Musical Students
Divorce Me Darling is set in the 1930’s and is the musical sequel to The Boyfriend. DMD picks up the story of the original ‘it’ girls 10 years after they all met and, consequently, married their husbands. Boredom has set in amongst the Bloomsbury gels and they return to the Hotel Paradis in glamorous Nice, trying to recapture their youth and a bit of excitement along the way.
What follows is an hysterical romp through a raft of misunderstandings and complicated love lives, so close to farcical that I was half expecting Brian Rix to pop out of a cupboard. A show filled with laughter, song and dance, Divorce Me Darling is a testament to the hard work and passion of the cast and crew making it probably the finest student production I have seen. With a top quality set, stunning costumes and choreography and the students revelling in the over the top campness of the show, this was entertainment of the highest calibre.
As an ensemble piece, there were no weak links with each cast member putting in performances they can all be proud of. But, as with all productions, some stars shine a little brighter than others and special mention must go to Chelsea Hoyle, Tamara Lewis–Seccombe, James Drury, Lauren Moore, Darrell Clack, Amelia May, Hannah Snelling, Catherine Keeble and Joe Holt - theatrical stars in the making.
Divorce Me Darling is a credit to the college, the Performing Arts tutors and the students themselves, the final standing ovation was richly deserved by everyone involved.
